Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training, San Francisco
2010 dates: October 6-10
2011 dates: March 2-6, October 5-9

Immerse yourself in the study of yoga for the childbearing year. This 5-day 40-hour intensive is a comprehensive course on the art and science of teaching prenatal yoga. The training covers teaching yoga for pregnancy, birth and beyond, and includes practice, lecture, class observations, guest speakers and lots of juicy discussion.

Scheduled guest speakers are:
   Joanna Foote, Psy. D: Pre and postnatal psychology
   Cynthia Belew, CNM: Pre and postnatal nutrition
   Mary Newberry, CNM: “Birth and Culture”
   Stephanie Forster, Preggo Pilates: Postnatal reconditioning

It will be helpful for students to be familiar with the following books prior to the training:
   Janet Balaskas: Preparing for Birth with Yoga (1994 edition okay)
   Elizabeth Noble: Essential Exercise for the Childbearing year
   Ina May's Guide to Childbirth

Topics include:
   Anatomy and physiology of pregnancy
   The benefits of yoga for pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum
   Sequencing a prenatal class
   Postures to aid common discomforts of pregnancy
   Poses to avoid during and after pregnancy
   Appropriate pranayama (breath) practices
   Psychology of pregnancy and birth
   Prenatal bonding
   Asana to support optimal fetal positioning
   Physiology of childbirth
   Yoga for labor
   Cultural attitudes about birth
   Medical and holistic models of care
   Birth choices/empowered birth
   Resource building
   Nutrition/natural remedies for pregnancy and beyond
   Mom & baby yoga
   Postpartum issues
   The 4th trimester

All participants will receive a copy of Jane's Prenatal Yoga DVD. A certificate of completion will be awarded to those who attend the entire training, and successfully complete a take home exam and book report.
